Who is People’s Energy?

The People’s Energy Company is based in East Lothian and was founded in 2017 after raising their startup costs through a crowdfunding campaign. This supplier currently provides energy to around 80,000 customers and has already paid back its funders. They promise to be completely transparent and involve their customers at every step of the decision making process. Their electricity comes from Biomass but they don’t currently supply green gas.

Is People’s Energy a well rated dual fuel energy and gas and electricity Supply Company?

This provider came joint fifth in a recent Which? survey of customer satisfaction and is rated highly for bill accuracy and value for money. They currently enjoy 4.5 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot which rates them excellent. Customers praised online and telephone support, mentioning the friendliness and helpfulness of call agents.

Billing and account management is another area where this provider excels with Citizens Advice noting that 99% of customers had received at least one accurate bill in the last 12 months. People’s Energy claims to answer 93% of phone calls within 30 seconds.

What type of energy tariffs offered by People’s Energy for the UK households?

Variable energy tariff – The rolling variable tariff has no exit fees but the price of energy can go up as well as down.People’s energy can change your daily standing charge and price per kWh (unit rate) whenever they wish.
Fixed rate tariff – price per kWh and daily standing charge will remain fixed throughout the contract terms. A £30 exit fee applies per fuel if you choose to switch early.
Dual fuel energy tariff – It means People’s energy will supply both electricity and gas to your home. Usually, dual fuel energy is cheaper when compared to single fuel energy supply.

Account management

People’s Energy only accepts direct debit customers although they’re working towards supplying customers with prepayment meters. They don’t provide an e-car tariff but Economy 7 customers can benefit from cheap overnight electricity to charge up. Peoples Energy don’t install smart meters although your existing meter will be supported.

There’s no app but you can use the online chat function or contact this supplier via their social media channels. You can manage your account online through the portal which lets you register meter readings and view your bills.
