The company was formed in December 1998. It was formed as a single unit by merging Scottish Hydro Electric and Southern Electric. The company provides gas and electricity to 8.21 million customers(both domestic and commercial) over the largest distribution network, which crosses England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. SSE and the price change scenario:

The company announced a price deduction of 5.3% in household gas prices which was in effect from 29th March.

The beginning of the year 2015 saw the energy giant lowering its prices by 4.1% and matched the footsteps of its competitors. The price cut was not implemented until 30th April 2013.

Another big price rise was observed in October 2013 when the company announced price rise by 8.2%. It was brought into effect from November 2013. It was applied to the tariffs of all the subsidiaries of SSE.

In December 2013, the company reduced its energy prices by 4% to support the government’s initiative of Green levies. It came into effect from March 2014. Thus, the total price rise in 2013-14 was 4.2%.
