Everything You Need To Know About G Network

When it comes to choosing a broadband internet provider for your home or business, it can be difficult to know which is best. And there are now so many different internet service providers (ISPs) out there that the choice can certainly seem overwhelming.

That's why taking the time to look at an ISP in closer detail can be a really useful way to narrow down your shortlist of contenders. Here, we'll be taking a closer look at G Network, an internet provider known for being the first full fibre broadband provider for the London area.

The G Network Mission Statement

At G Network, the company goal is to deliver ultra fast broadband to all of their customers, without any buffering or drop-outs of service. This will, according to the G Network website, allow communities to benefit both in social and economic terms, by allowing everyone to connect smoothly with one another. Businesses will be helped by the high quality internet connection G Network offers, which in turn will provide a boost to all of London.

How This Is Being Achieved

At the core of G Network's plan to give all of London access to its ultra fast broadband internet, it is working hard to upgrade the network infrastructure itself. This means that G Network is replacing the old copper wires that previously delivered broadband internet to homes and places of business with 100% full fibre cables. The full fibre cabling ensures faster download and upload speeds, together with improved reliability, even in busy, high traffic areas such as offices. It will mean that as well as allowing businesses to transfer larger volumes of data with speed, home users can enjoy a much improved streaming experience, whether that's for gaming, music, or film and television.

A UK Company

As well as being native to London, G Network uses London-based customer services, too, with the support and sales teams accessible by telephone and live chat. Right now, the company is too small to be registered with the industry regulator, Offcom, but Trustpilot scores its G Network review for customer service as 4.1 out of 5, which is a great sign. Furthermore, 69% of G Network's customers rate it as "excellent".

In addition to offering ultra fast and reliable broadband to home users, G Network also delivers a range of packages for businesses in London, with deals to suit every size of enterprise from sole trader operations up to the largest companies, and the option to access speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

The G Network Offering

Unlike many of its big name competitors (such as BT, Sky and Virgin), G Network doesn't give its customers the option to create "bundles", where signing up to a broadband internet service sees telephone or TV services added in, too. This can be a drawback for some prospective customers, who may prefer to pay just one bill for these different services each month as a way to keep a closer eye on their finances.

Instead, G Network offers a choice of broadband packages based on speeds, with the entry level service already delivering an impressive 150 Mbps. This package will be ideal for most households, and will allow multiple users to get online and browse. The next level of service is 300 Mbps, which is a smart choice for homes where many people could be downloading large files at the same time. With this level of service, multiple family members can stream music or films in different rooms, too. The third option is 600 Mbps, which is a great choice for the largest families, or large house shares, or for those who enjoy a 4K experience. Finally, the fourth option by G Network is for 900Mbps, which is on a par with the fastest broadband speeds offered by any UK broadband supplier. This fastest level of connectivity will power any and all of your online requirements, from 4K streaming and gaming in multiple rooms, to enabling smart devices and appliances throughout the home.

In a broadband price comparison, G Network performed very well against some of the biggest names in the industry, including BT and TalkTalk. Its cheapest broadband package (which provides broadband speeds of 150 Mbps) is priced from just £22 per month for home users. The packages rise in cost in line with with their average speeds, with the G Network 300 Mbps package costing from £30 a month, the 600 Mbps package costing from £38 a month, and the 900 Mbps package costing from £50 a month.

The actual cost of your package with G Network will vary according to a number of factors, such as the length of contract that you sign up for (the longer your agreement, the cheaper the deal).

What You Can Expect

G Network uses FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) connections, so unlike with many other types of broadband, you don't need to have a landline installed. When you sign up, you will receive a pre-configured G Network router, which comes with a generous four Ethernet cable ports. There is also the option to pay for a managed router service, in which case you will receive an enterprise grade G Network router, which the company will manage for you. This can be a good option for some small businesses and households where people are working from home.

It's also worth noting that, as G Network offers one month contracts as well as standard 12 or 24 month agreements, it can make a great option for those who need a flexible or short term broadband deal. You also get a three month guarantee on all packages from G Network.

Can I Get G Network?

Right now, G Network is only available in the London area of the UK. At the time of writing, however, not all of London's districts are able to access its ultra fast broadband speeds, but the G Network website has a convenient postcode checker tool that will quickly allow you to see whether your own address or work premises will be able to get online with them. If you aren't lucky enough to live in a part of London that already has access to the G Network service, you can register your interest, and the company will update you when they have a date for upgrading the broadband network in your area.

If you complete the postcode check and find that you are eligible for G Network services, it is easy to start the process online. Similarly, the company can help to guide you through the process of switching from another broadband provider to their service.

It's important to note that there can occasionally be other issues at work, such as delays in G Network obtaining a Wayleave agreement for your building. A Wayleave agreement is an essential legal document that permits an ISP to install full fibre broadband connections in a premises. You can call G Network to learn more, should you find yourself affected.

Getting The Best From Your Home Broadband

If you are paying for a ultra fast broadband connection, you'll want to make the most of your investment, and to do so, it makes sense to put a little thought into setting up your router. The fastest broadband connections will be achieved when you connect your computer or other device directly to the router with an Ethernet cable. This is because using a cable does not require the mandatory signal encryption that Wi-Fi must use, which slows down the transfer of data slightly as a result.

If, like most of us, you are also planning to use your router to provide wireless broadband connectivity, then bear in mind that the closer your computer or device is to the router, the stronger and faster your connection will be. As a general rule, you can optimise the performance of your Wi-Fi connection by placing the router in an open plan area of your home or business, where the signal will not be blocked by walls or heavy furniture. It's best to keep your router at around table height, and be sure that it is not obscured by items such as photo frames or ornaments. To avoid interference with your Wi-Fi signal, keep your router away from other electrical devices that use radio waves, such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless telephones, and even dimmer light switches.

Should I Sign Up To G Network Broadband?

If you have checked availability for your address, and don't want any extras included in your service, then G Network is likely to be a great choice for you. G Network reviews are good overall, and it is a competitively priced ISP offering a high quality ultra fast broadband connection, so you can look forward to working, gaming, or watching content without interruption or disruption. It's certainly well worth adding to your list when you come to compare broadband providers.
