Some of the Big Six suppliers seem frustrated by the warning given by the energy regulator Ofgem and the UK government to ease out energy prices. Scottish Power reacted to the situation by calling the UK government a mess and has asked the ministers to contemplate over the issues. Authorities at the Scottish Power have clearly stated that the government should choose between allowing free trade and full price regulation. The company with roots in Spain has asked the UK ministers to have a clear vision about the energy market. It wants the current government to take a stand on whether it wants to create a competitive market where the companies can increase or decrease the prices or it wants a regulated price system, like other countries. It wants a clear cut decision which can be utilised as a base for future decisions. Keith Anderson, the chief corporate officer of […]

The energy sector has diversified opinions with some not agreeing to the UK government’s decision to end support for wind farms. ScottishPower, one of the Big Six energy suppliers suggested that it would be difficult to meet up with the UK’s climate targets if the current government does not reverse its stand taken to stop subsidies for renewable energy resources. Keith Anderson, a representative of Scottish Power stated that the government’s new subsidy regime should include onshore wind power as it is the best step towards cutting down energy bills as well as carbon footprint. He vehemently disagrees to the government’s verdict to end existing subsidies for fresh onshore wind farms from April 2017. His indirect message reveals the lack of clarity in the energy sector. Anderson expressed his disagreement with the government’s approach by saying “Our view would be if you want to hit your climate change targets you […]

Following the announcement from E.ON recently that cuts in wholesale costs would be leading to overall drops in customer prices, Scottish Power have called and raised E.ON by announcing 4.8% cuts compared to E.ON’s 3.5%. These price cuts might not be quickly evident, however. The energy companies are advising that although customer costs will drop, due to longer term energy contracts, much of the buying is done quite far in advance, so it could take time for these cuts to become a reality in most people’s homes. Alongside these general cuts, Scottish Power have followed another of E.ON’s leads and introduced a new fixed tariff plan that will see a duel fuel bill of £930, which is a reduction from the £970 of the Fixed January 2016 Tariff. Having said that, many industry experts have estimated that prices could and should fall as much as £140 if all the wholesale […]

Npower isn’t the only energy company to be disappointing its customers, there are now also an increasing number of complaints about British Gas and Scottish Power. It’s not just npower that is failing customers. Telegraph Money is hearing from increasing numbers of Scottish Power and, more recently, British Gas customers who are failing to resolve their billing problems. In the first three months of the year Scottish Power received almost 200 complaints for every 100,000 customers said The Citizens Advice Bureau, double that of the three months prior to December. Complaints from Scottish Power customers to Telegraph Money and our consumer champion Jessica Gorst-Williams increased since it changed its billing system last year. This week, a batch of these were sent to the supplier for investigation. Between January-March, British Gas received 75 complaints per 100,000 customers, compared with 54 in the previous three months. By comparison, npower had almost 600 […]

Following some technical and environmental studies Scottish Power Renewables has taken a U-turn on its plans for a 75MW wind farm in Corwen, North Wales. Despite the company working on the plans since 2010, it has officially withdrawn the planning application for the 25 turbine wind farm. According to Scottish Power, the studies have highlighted issues on the landscape and visual effects particularly relating to national grid connections. The Scottish Power Renewables spokesperson concluded on the matter with this note, “We are very grateful for the feedback and advice we have received from the very many interested parties during the development of the project. We have consulted widely with a range of stakeholder, including county councils, community councils and the Mynydd Mynyllod Community Liaison Panel”.
