Some of the top UK energy suppliers are planning to offer loyalty schemes and special deals to their loyal customers, which have not made a switch for the past three years. Senior authorities of Npower and EDF Energy have agreed that they have called meetings to decide on the loyalty offers which may include free boiler services. This step is taken as the companies are getting a push from the government, which urges them to design loyalty schemes to benefit the customers who have stayed with the suppliers for a couple of years. There have been attempts in the past and companies have arranged perks such as boiler cover, supermarket store points etc. However, the new drive would focus more on the customers that are on the Standard Variable Tariffs and are unable to switch. The beginning of the week marked energy regular Ofgem suggesting suppliers to design plans to […]

There has been a buzz of price hikes in the energy market as the Big Six suppliers have started announcing energy price increases across the board. EDF energy was the first one to declare that it would be raising electricity prices by 8% from March while Npower shook the UK government and Ofgem by announcing a 15% hike in electricity as well as 8.4% in gas prices. Experts feared that rest of the Big Six brigade would follow suit and the prediction seems to come to life as British Gas joins the trend. Although, there has been no confirmation from the supplier, it is supposedly planning to make a move in this direction. The biggest energy supplier of Britain is planning a 9% increase in energy prices causing the energy bills to inflate by £94. The company’s decision would affect more than 11 million customers, who will not be happy […]

The company that is known best for supplying green electricity and gas has now introduced an electricity tariff which varies according to time. The tariff is highly beneficial for householders that use electricity overnight as the tariff charges just 4.9 pence per unit when electricity is used between 11pm and 6am. While the tariff offers slashed prices, this is only for usage during the night time; the company would charge five times more when energy is used during peak hours. Green Energy UK dual fuel tariff is known as TIDE and is available to home energy customers. Launched in the first week of the New Year, the deal could be five times costlier if you use energy between 4 to 7 pm i.e. peak weekday hours. As the average price of electricity is 14 pence per unit, the experts and customers welcome this new tariff but, agreed that it may […]

The energy sector has diversified opinions with some not agreeing to the UK government’s decision to end support for wind farms. ScottishPower, one of the Big Six energy suppliers suggested that it would be difficult to meet up with the UK’s climate targets if the current government does not reverse its stand taken to stop subsidies for renewable energy resources. Keith Anderson, a representative of Scottish Power stated that the government’s new subsidy regime should include onshore wind power as it is the best step towards cutting down energy bills as well as carbon footprint. He vehemently disagrees to the government’s verdict to end existing subsidies for fresh onshore wind farms from April 2017. His indirect message reveals the lack of clarity in the energy sector. Anderson expressed his disagreement with the government’s approach by saying “Our view would be if you want to hit your climate change targets you […]

The retail arm of Centrica which sells gas and electricity to residential customers has reported a 31% increase in profits to £571m. The increased profits have led some to commentate that the industry is unscrupulously profiteering the low prices in the wholesale market. The group, Fuel Poverty Action, which campaigns for those that struggle with energy costs, criticised the latest financial figures and accused companies like British Gas of over profiteering from the poor. Ruth London of Fuel Poverty Action scathingly attacked British Gas by saying, “It is absolutely sickening that British Gas has made bumper profits in a year when there were more winter deaths than at any time this century. We have seen British Gas mercilessly hound hard-up customers even when bills are in dispute,” British Gas is the largest supplier for gas to UK households currently supplying 40% of UK homes. They have cut household bills 3 times […]
