There has been a buzz of price hikes in the energy market as the Big Six suppliers have started announcing energy price increases across the board. EDF energy was the first one to declare that it would be raising electricity prices by 8% from March while Npower shook the UK government and Ofgem by announcing a 15% hike in electricity as well as 8.4% in gas prices. Experts feared that rest of the Big Six brigade would follow suit and the prediction seems to come to life as British Gas joins the trend. Although, there has been no confirmation from the supplier, it is supposedly planning to make a move in this direction. The biggest energy supplier of Britain is planning a 9% increase in energy prices causing the energy bills to inflate by £94. The company’s decision would affect more than 11 million customers, who will not be happy […]

News that is spreading like wildfire in the UK energy market is that British Gas mails are injecting viruses in its customer’s PCs. Yes! This time it is the giant energy supplier at the receiving end of this cyber-crime. Hundreds and thousands of British Gas customers are receiving malicious mail which hijacks people’s PCs and then asks for ransom in return for logging them back. In looks and feel, these mails are superbly authentic as it uses the company’s branding. Sent with a title ‘Your summer gas & electricity bills’ the mail contains payment details and the amount the customer owes to the “gas and electricity supplier”. Link to view the detailed bill redirects the customers to a website that asks them to download a file. Do not download that file or else your PC will be attacked by the virus and it will be virtually hijacked. You will not […]

British Gas Lost 400,000 Customers, blaming competition One of the Big Six energy suppliers, British Gas has seen a downward growth curve in the first half of 2016. The company has lost nearly 3% of its customers totalling the figure to 400,000. Its parent company Centrica has confirmed that the energy giant has lost £516m as per reports from January to June 30th. There is a noticeable loss of 13% in the total revenue and 12% in the operating profit. Centrica while pondering upon the reasons blamed this massive loss on the competitive environment. Britain’s smaller independent energy providers are powering forwards; they now hold, between them, 13.4 percent of the country’s household energy supply market. This has increased significantly from a mere 2.6 percent two years ago. Success is sweet, as they continue to draw in unhappy customers from the Big Six. First Utility and Ovo Energy gained 860,000 electricity and gas accounts between them, in the year to July 2015. This is according to latest market share data published by consultancy Cornwall Energy. Over the same period the ‘Big Six’ suppliers lost 660,000 accounts. This is no trifling detail. British people are venting their wrath, moving off in droves after putting up for years with less than satisfactory customer service; they’ve also had to pay through the nose with whopping high bills charged by the incumbent giants; indeed, the Competition and Markets Authority stated in July that it had found the Big […]

I have read the report published in regarding over paying on energy bills by majority homes (around 70%) in UK. A study conducted by Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) says around 70% consumers are using energy through expensive tariffs while cheaper tariffs available in the market!!! Mainly dual-fuel energy subscribers who can save up to £160 a year have failed to choose the most economic deals. And most importantly the reason given by the CMA is much unanticipated for me at least. CMA found few reasons and first is Lack of Awareness about deals, tariffs and other related terms, the second is confusing bills. As a comparison service provider through Free Price Compare, it’s my moral duty to bring some awareness through my article and I have kicked off by this article which gives you a perfect insight into the ten recently launched energy tariffs by leading energy suppliers of […]

In the first three months of the year Scottish Power received almost 200 complaints for every 100,000 customers said The Citizens Advice Bureau, double that of the three months prior to December. Complaints from Scottish Power customers to Telegraph Money and our consumer champion Jessica Gorst-Williams increased since it changed its billing system last year.
