Britons Pay £327 Million To Save Themselves From Broadband Blackouts

November 26th, 2019

Often there have been cases of Broadband blackouts in which the customer loses internet connectivity while switching over to another provider. As broadband is a necessity and a quarter of Britons work from home through the internet, this kind of blackouts are certainly not tolerable. To avoid such internet blackout times, consumers choose to pay more but end up losing hundreds of pounds.

When collective calculations were made it was discovered that Britons are paying £327 million a year extra just to avoid internet blackout conditions. Due to this extra cost, they end up saving just £9.80 per month on switching. Only one out of ten customers making the switch end up saving £240 a year and those fearing the risk shell out more money.

Statistics also reveal that only one tenth of broadband users have made a switch in the last year. Moreover, one fifth of the customers have not changed their supplier in the past five years. The worst and most surprising part is that nearly 35% of them have never switched their broadband service provider. Most of them worry about losing internet in-between the switch and drop the idea of switching.

Around 55% of customers have faced interruption in their internet connectivity during the switch with most facing 1.4 days of downtime. The most disturbing part is that around 6% of the people faced broadband blackout for 3 consecutive weeks, which could lead to big losses especially if one is working from home. Most of them are Londoners who face 2.3 days of ‘zero internet’ until the switching process is over.

Note, you can certainly make a complaint to the provider and if they don’t pay heed to your calling then you can go to an Alternative Dispute Resolution Scheme, which the provider belongs to.

To conclude, stop paying extra for temporary solutions for broadband blackouts faced while making a switch. Instead, choose a supplier that provides the cheapest broadband deals and get a written confirmation from them about the exact date of switch as well as installation. If this is not followed then take the legal path of complaining to the ADRS. If you find shopping around a time consuming job then leave it to FreePriceCompare.
