Known as The Tenants Bill, the law will aim to cap deposits at a cost of 6 weeks of rent and there will be an outright ban on letting fees. In the current state, tenants are losing out on hundreds of pounds due to various extra charges such as licenses for pets, admin costs, referencing fees etc. By banning these extra costs, tenants will have a greater handle on the true cost of the accommodation and they will collectively save £240 million a year. What happens if the bill is passed? If the bill is passed in parliament, tenant deposits will be capped and letting fees will be banned. Alongside this, it will: Limit holding deposits to reserve a property to no more than one week’s rent Limit the charge to change the tenancy to £50 unless the landlord is able to justify with evidence for any increase in costs […]

According to the statistics given by the insurance provider RAC, the numbers of AFVs registered have increased by 20% in February 2017 when compared to the same time last year. Around 7200 of the 174,564 registered in January this year are AFVs which form 4.2% of the market share. With the Prime Minister’s announcement of a snap general election, any reforms planned for cheaper energy prices are most likely going to be put on the back burner, leaving UK households exposed to further energy price hikes. As the UK digests the news of the snap general elections to be held on 8th June, the Prime Minister’s intentions to intervene in the energy market seems slim. The energy market is facing tough times bearing the energy price increase by the Big Six energy suppliers and some energy experts were looking forward to some respite from the PM. However, with the snap election triggered by tensions on Brexit negotiations any reform seems unlikely in the near term. Courts of England and Wales register more than one million cases of speeding every year. To stop this insane driving behaviour, a new and severe penalty would be introduced from the month of April this year. Precisely speaking, drivers in England and Wales should be ready for much higher penalties from the 24th April 2017. According to the new rules, motorists caught speeding would be penalised with a fine of 150% of their weekly income unlike the existing rule of 100%. The changes made by the district judges and magistrates are due to the consultation in 2016 which discussed that the former guidelines were not enough as far as the speeding rules are concerned. Also, if this kind of behaviour is allowed then it would be a potential risk to the general public and would make way for more accidents. Furthermore, the drivers would be subjected to points or disqualification […]
