Refund on power of attorney registration fees A power of attorney document, allows you to nominate a relative or a trusted friend to look after your affairs in the event you are mentally not capable. For those who got a POA done between the times of 1st April 2013 and March 31st 2017 in England and Wales, they would have paid £110 for the service. This is more than what it should have cost and hence you are owed a £54 refund and a 0.5% per annum interest. With the increase in temperatures in the spring season, customers are taking their eye off the home energy bills which is ideal for energy suppliers as they are increasing prices. Most recently Npower announced a price increase of 5.3pc on its dual fuel tariff affecting its 1 million customers. Prior to that, EDF announced a price increase of 2.7pc and British Gas kicked off the price increase announcements by increasing the cost of its standard tariff by 5.5 per cent. Also, technically speaking, EON have not followed suit as their unit charge is still the same but the company has removed its dual fuel discounts and increased its standing charge making it more expensive for its customer too. The Domestic Gas and Electricity Bill compel the energy regulator Ofgem to implement an energy price cap on energy suppliers. The cap is imposed on the energy companies’ Standard Variable Tariff which currently has around 11 million customers in the UK. Currently the cap is to be imposed until the year 2020 but the government does have the option to extend till 2023. According to UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, the cap will “force energy companies to change their ways”. A 2016 report found that customer were over paying by £1.4bn a year by sticking with the energy supplier’s standard variable tariff (SVT). Npower hikes home energy prices affecting a million customers Following the trend laid out by EDF and British Gas, Npower has increased its dual fuel energy prices by 5.3pc. The rise has been blamed on the increase in wholesale energy and policy costs. Coming hard on energy suppliers, Ofgem has got through new legislation which will allow it to cap the standard variable tariffs which is currently utilized by 11 million customers.
